Metal 3D printing opens up many opportunities for vehicle manufacturers. Production can become cheaper, lighter, and better for the environment all while improving the cars themselves. Given the ability to customise components at any time without extra cost, engineers can easily optimise their designs. With faster manufacturing, research can be conducted quicker and designs can be optimised quicker, leading to improvements in the car and fuel efficiency. At the moment many car manufacturers are 3D printing the tooling they use in their assembly lines, allowing them to get to market faster.
Front wings, brake ducts, suspension and engine covers are all examples of things being printed by manufacturers today in order to utilise the advantages given to us by metal 3D printing.
